DOLPHIN DOIN' THE DANCE
H = 10," W = 5," D = 3"
Playfulness as well grace I associate with the dolphins dancing underwater. I wanted to capture that impression with the stainless steel wire, an equally important part to the actual sculpture. Only by using quarter-sawn zebra wood and laminating it in this specific way could I achieve the effects I was aiming for. When the dolphin breaks the surface, the water on its skin will run off in little ripples at beak and fluke (grain of wood). When scuba diving underneath the dolphin, the air bubbles released from my mouth break in little circles on the under surface of the dolphin. Like raindrops hitting a body of water.
